OPAL YOUNG grew up in rural Southwest Mississippi where she fell in love with
Nature and never saw a sunset she didn’t want to paint.
She received her B. S. and M. S. Degrees at the University of Southern Mississippi
In Health and Physical Education with emphasis on the art of human movement.
While teaching at William Carey College in Hattiesburg in 1963 she visited Gulf
Shores, Alabama and fell in love with the sea. The sea kept calling her and she bought her
First house in 1969.
Opal started painting classes in 2001.
Opal is a member and an exhibiting artist at Eastern Shore Art Center,
Orange Beach Art Center, Foley Performing Art Association, Artist by the Bay, Fairhope
Artist Gallery, and at LuLu’s Art Market.
Presently, Opal has painted over 450 paintings since her first class, each one a stepping stone to
becoming an Artist.
